
Cynosure (pronounced si-ne-shur) comes from the Ancient Greek, Kynosoura, which was the name they gave to the North Star. In ancient times, mariners relied on the North Star to guide their navigation. Much like the North Star, coaching acts as a guide to help people find their direction. It inspires them to transform their thinking, to take action, and to shine in their own unique way. That’s why we chose the name Cynosure – to let our clients know that they can count on us to act as their guide on their way to their best lives possible.
What is Coaching? Coaching is a collaborative partnership between a coach and a willing individual, which connects at the deep personal level of beliefs, values and vision. It enables, through a process of discovery, goal setting and specific action. It is for the realization of extraordinary results. It is based on a body of knowledge and a style of relating that focus on the development of human capacity.

Meet Heather Emmerzael
Heather has been a Registered Nurse for over 20 years. She has spent the majority of her time in the Critical Care environment – working at the bedside in a large Edmonton tertiary Hospital in the Emergency Department and General Systems Intensive Care. She has taught leadership courses at MacEwan University and also has worked as a Manager for Critical Care and Cardiac Sciences.
Throughout her career she has noticed the large stressors that nurses and health care providers experience. As a manager she found herself striving to see how she could better support the staff with all of the constant changes that happen in the medical field. This led her to Graduate School where she obtained her Graduate Certificate in Executive Coaching. She also became a Certified Resiliency Coach and facilitator for grief and trauma work.
Heather is also a Reiki master who holds a very holistic view when working with clients. She believes and understands the importance of mind/body/soul health and connection and brings it to the forefront of her work with clients.
While busy with her career Heather also managed to have two beautiful daughters and takes an active role in their activities.
Heather is passionate about helping health care professionals and has a true love for nurses and their profession. She is a coach who helps frustrated, overwhelmed and fatigued nurses beat burnout and achieve a life of balance, without compromising their life or career so that they can feel truly fulfilled on every level.
Meet Rob De Toni
As a lawyer now in his 25th year in the practice of law, Rob knows not only what it takes to develop a successful career in law, but also how to navigate the unique pressures of the legal industry. During his 25 years of practice, Rob successfully established himself as one of the leading bankruptcy and insolvency practitioners in the Ottawa and surrounding area. In addition to working for many years at both small and medium-sized firms and assisting with the various aspects of management, Rob recently set up his own firm, National Capital Law.
While maintaining a busy schedule as a lawyer, Rob did not lose sight of the importance of giving back to the local community. Currently, Rob is acting as Chair of the Board of the Children’s Aid Foundation of Ottawa, having recently led the development of its 3-year strategic plan. Rob also served as Vice President of the Board of Villa Marconi Long-Term Care Centre, where he helped guide it through a period of significant transition.
In addition, Rob served as President of the Board of the Canadian Italian Business and Professional Association of Ottawa and played a fundamental role in establishing its scholarship program. Rob has also given back to the legal community serving on the County of Carleton Law Association’s Civil Litigation Updated committee and the Ontario Bar Association’s Young Lawyers’ Division (where he spearheaded the development of a mock trial program for grade 5 and 6 students in the Ottawa area), and the Ontario Bar Association’s Insolvency Executive.
After embarking on his own personal development journey, in 2020, Rob obtained his designations as a certified executive coach and certified resilience coach. As a long practicing lawyer with a wealth of experience, and as a coach, Rob is uniquely skilled to help lawyers who feel burnt out and stuck to take control of their lives and to find the path that will lead them to both personal and professional fulfillment.
